Swansea belongs to Bristol County, which is located in the southeastern portion of Massachusetts. The town sits to the west of Fall River, at the mouth of the Taunton River. It is 47 miles south of the city of Boston, and just 12 miles southeast of Providence. According to a recent census, the population of Swansea sits at 15, 865. Some of the original settlers of the area were Welsh, and named Swansea after a Welsh town of the same denomination. The town is reachable via I-195 and U.S. Route 6. State routes 103, 118, and 136 also lead to Swansea. Neighboring towns include Dighton, Somerset, Mount Hope Bay, Seekonk, and Rehoboth. While Swansea is located at the mouth of the Taunton River, the rivers Cole, Kickamuit, and Palmer also run through the town. About a decade before 1900, trolleys connected Swansea to Providence, Fall River, and Taunton. Due to this, the town has retained their suburban and residential feel. These days, the area is known for its retail and shopping centers. Much of the retail locations in Swansea are located along the highways that lead into town. For example, the Swansea Mall is located near U.S. Route 6 and Massachusetts Route 118. Several other retail districts are located along the rivers that run through town as well. Aside from the various retail locations, Swansea remains a rural area. Attorney Wayne Resmini happily serves the town of Swansea with personal injury services.
